Month: March, 2012

yes, your majesty

My friend Phoebe sent me a link to this great website today, Style Queen. Great jewelry with an OAK look, but at a Chinatown pricepoint.

I’m not much of a jewelry person, but if I get something, I like unusual statement pieces. I grabbed an antiqued chain  + peacock feather necklace, sans shopper’s remorse, considering the 28 dollar price tag. (what the what?!)

Now I know where to find all of my girlfriend gifts, hereto-forward…

matsuri + hiro auction; japanese design

It saddens me to post that the great doors of Matsuri and Hiro in the Maritime Hotel, NYC will be closing forever on March 24, 2012. I was an opening manager at this restaurant, and worked many long, fun-filled nights there for 3 years.

All items in Matsuri & Hiro will be auctioned off Wednesday April 4th.  Preview starts at 12 noon and auction starts at 2 PM.  Auction ends when all lots are sold.
There will be additional previews from 1 PM to 4 PM on Monday the 2nd and Tuesday the 3rd.
Entrance will be on 16th Street through Matsuri.

Matsuri + Hiro have been hailed in numerous design magazines & websites around the globe. In 2004, Matsuri was cited as having the Best New Design in New York Magazine’s Best of New York awards.

Large and cavernous like the hull of a great wooden ship, the Japanese restaurant is bathed in warm light and tastefully designed with green and brown glazed oval tiles from Heath Ceramics, antique tansu, hand-thrown pottery, zabutan, artisan lanterns, tea pottery, lacquerware, etc.

Below are some photos of this amazing place that housed my favorite NYC restaurant, and the adjoining club Hiro.
This auction is open to the public, so it’s a great opportunity for some amazing finds.
